Sermon for the 4th Sunday of Lent 2017

My sermon for this Rose Sunday digs into the difference between what we want and what we need. In particular, I'm thinking about dramatically the story changes when we realize that the man born blind in today's Gospel wasn't a victim, but a prize winner... If live is just about getting the best we can get right now - then the man is a victim of a pretty terrible God and a pretty terrible world. After all, Jesus says that this man was born blind in order that he might be used to glorify God - that's a tough pill to swallow! On the other hand, if this life is about getting to Heaven, then the man born blind has gotten a step up on us all... Like any good coach, God wants what is truly best for us - what we need - not what we want at any given moment...
